La Roseraie du Val-de-Marne
Renowned 19th-century rose garden with gazebos, arbors & trellises covered in summer flowers.
La Roseraie du Val-de-Marne is a legendary rose garden located in L’Haÿ-les-Roses, a picturesque town situated roughly nine kilometers south of central Paris. Founded in nineteen hundred one by Jules Gravereaux, the garden was created to honor the beauty of roses and the art of horticulture from the last century. Stepping into the garden today, visitors encounter charming gazebos, arbors, and trellises alongside an array of summer blooms that capture the spirit of nineteenth-century design.
The garden also features elegant kiosques, tonnelles, and treillis that reflect the architectural tastes of the era. These structures are more than decorative; they tell the story of a time when nature and art were deeply intertwined. One notable landmark is the Norman Pavillon, a historical building that has come to symbolize the rich local heritage.
L’Haÿ-les-Roses itself boasts an extensive past, with roots reaching back to medieval times and even the days of Charlemagne, when it was known as Laiacum. Over time, the garden has evolved into a cultural hub, hosting traditions and events that celebrate its long-standing connection to French artistry and history.
