Welcome to Parc de la Butte du Chapeau Rouge, a vibrant public park nestled on a hillside in Paris’s nineteenth arrondissement. Established in nineteen thirty-nine on a site once used for military purposes, the park marks a striking transformation from a utilitarian zone to a modern urban retreat. It is renowned for its departure from traditional picturesque gardens and embraces wide open lawns that serve as a backdrop to carefully placed works of art.

The visionary design was led by architect Léon Azéma, with contributions from Jacques Carlu and Louis-Hippolyte Boileau. Alongside these architects, celebrated artist Raymond Couvégne created the prize-winning statue of Eve in nineteen thirty-eight, which graces the park’s entrance beside a modern-style water fountain on Boulevard d’Algérie. Additionally, a notable sculpture by Pierre Traverse from the same era depicts two women and a child with grapes, adding charm and symbolism.

Strolling through the park, visitors enjoy spiral paths, long alleys, and stairways that lead to elevated terraces and belvederes offering panoramic views of the city. The modern design elements seamlessly blend with neoclassical touches, such as the columns at the playgrounds, illustrating the fusion of art, culture, and history during the thirties.
