Audio GuidePalais Galliera
Chic Beaux-Arts fashion museum displaying 3 centuries of clothing, accessories & photography.
Welcome to Palais Galliera, one of Paris' premier destinations for fashion enthusiasts and curious travelers. This museum, also known as Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, is located at Ten Avenue Pierre First de Serbie in the upscale Sixteenth arrondissement. Its elegant neo-Renaissance design, inspired by a Genoese palace once owned by the Galliera family, features a refined cut-stone façade, intricate mosaic floors, and graceful domes crafted by Giandomenico Facchina.
The museum's creation began with the Duchess of Galliera, who, after the Duke's passing in eighteen seventy-six, launched a project to honor their legacy. Construction started in eighteen seventy-nine and reached completion in eighteen ninety-four, with its first public exhibition the following year. Since nineteen seventy-seven, Palais Galliera has dedicated itself solely to fashion history.
Inside, visitors can explore a collection that spans from eighteenth-century costumes to modern masterpieces by renowned designers such as Balenciaga, Christian Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent. Also on display are accessories, undergarments, and graphic arts associated with the evolution of style.
