Welcome to the Palais de la Découverte, a remarkable science museum nestled in the historic west wing of the Grand Palais in Paris. Its story began in nineteen thirty-seven when Nobel Prize-winning physicist Jean Baptiste Perrin founded it during an international exhibition. Initially designed to share knowledge through public lectures, the museum soon transformed into a lively venue of hands-on science demonstrations that engage visitors of all ages.

In nineteen thirty-eight, the museum officially embraced its role as a science center, and by nineteen forty, it became associated with the University of Paris. It later gained independent status in nineteen seventy-two and joined forces with the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in twenty ten, further solidifying its place in Parisian culture.

The museum’s setting within a grand, colonnaded structure is enhanced by decorative sculptures and mosaics from the early twentieth century, creating an inspiring backdrop for interactive exhibits covering astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, and physics. Highlights include a circular pi room displaying seven hundred seven digits of pi and a modern Zeiss planetarium featuring a fifteen-meter dome.

Even during its current renovations, with updated digital technology and temporary sites like Les Étincelles, this cultural landmark continues to educate and inspire visitors from around the world.
