Welcome to the Musée des Archives Nationales at Hôtel de Soubise. Located in Paris’s historic Marais district in the third arrondissement, this museum invites you to explore French history in a unique way. Originally built as Hôtel de Clisson in thirteen seventy-one, the building evolved into Hôtel de Soubise and was rebuilt in seventeen oh five with stunning Rococo decor for French nobility.
Inside, you will encounter remarkable treasures. Among these are Napoleon the First's testament and Louis XVI’s journal, along with constitutional documents and even a parchment from King Childebert the Third dating to six hundred ninety-five. These items have influenced France through centuries of royal and political change, each marking moments that defined the nation.
Founded in eighteen sixty-seven under Napoleon the Third with the guidance of Léon de Laborde, the museum celebrates both document-based history and artistic heritage. Remarkable rooms, such as the Salon Ovale de la Princesse, feature ornate gilt and crystal decorations, and impressive ceiling frescoes by celebrated artists like François Boucher, Charles-Joseph Natoire, and Carle Van Loo.
