Musée national Jean-Jacques Henner
Welcome to Musée national Jean-Jacques Henner, an art museum dedicated to the renowned nineteenth-century painter Jean-Jacques Henner. Housed in an elegant townhouse designed by Nicolas-Félix Escalier in eighteen seventy-eight, the building itself reflects the refined architectural style of its era. As you walk through its halls in Paris’s seventeenth arrondissement, you will experience a blend of history, art, and creative expression.
Inside, over one hundred and thirty paintings and drawings are on display, including portraits, mythological scenes, and dreamlike landscapes inspired by Symbolism. Alongside finished works, preparatory sketches and documents reveal the thoughtful creative process of Henner and shed light on how his work evolved during his lifetime from eighteen twenty-nine to nineteen oh five.
Founded on March seventh, nineteen twenty-four, according to the artist’s wishes by Marie Henner and inaugurated by Minister Léon Bérard, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions such as the display of Francisco de Goya’s La Tauromaquia. This blend of permanent and temporary displays deepens the narrative of Henner’s legacy and enriches your cultural experience in this vibrant part of Paris.
