Audio GuideJardin du Ranelagh
Large landscaped park featuring walking paths & sculptures, plus playgrounds & pony rides.
Jardin du Ranelagh, located in Paris's sixteenth arrondissement, is a serene escape from the city’s bustle. Designed in the English landscape style by Adolphe Alphand around eighteen sixty, his vision was to create a tranquil space filled with wide lawns, ancient trees, and thoughtfully placed sculptures. The park takes its name from Lord Ranelagh and is linked to an eighteenth-century dance hall known as the Bal du Ranelagh, once held in the gardens of the nearby Château de la Muette.
Visitors can admire classic marble sculptures that celebrate myth and literature, as well as a modern monument to La Fontaine, installed in nineteen eighty-four. The park’s long history includes serving as a venue for cultural and political events during times of revolution, marking its legacy as an influential public space.
Over the centuries, key milestones have shaped the park into a cherished blend of history and modernity. Attractions such as a charming puppet theater, one of Paris's oldest manually operated carousels, inviting playgrounds, and occasional pony rides contribute to its vibrant local traditions. Nestled among international embassies and institutions, Jardin du Ranelagh exudes an air of refined history while welcoming twenty-five to forty-year-olds and families alike for relaxing walks and memorable outings.
