Champ-de-Mars

...

Welcome to Champ de Mars in Paris. This large public garden, located in the seventh arrondissement, has a long history that began as a military training ground. Its name means Field of Mars—a tribute to the ancient Roman god of war—and later it became a gathering place for military exercises. In Paris, the area started as a market garden and was transformed in the mid-eighteenth century with the building of the École Militaire, marking its military past. Over the years, this historic park witnessed revolutionary celebrations and important political events that shaped French history. It has also hosted several world fairs, showcasing new ideas and cultural innovations, and more recently served as a venue for art exhibitions, film events, and Olympic sports such as beach volleyball.

Similar public spaces can be found in cities like Montreal, Lille, Athens, and Montpellier, where history and modern life blend together and invite travelers to experience local culture and innovation.
