Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain
Foundation hosting temporary exhibits housed in an airy building designed by architect Jean Nouvel.
Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain began its journey in nineteen eighty-four when the Cartier firm founded it as a center for contemporary art. Since then, the museum has evolved into a place where international names and emerging talents share the stage. In nineteen ninety-four, it moved to its current location at two hundred sixty-one Boulevard Raspail in Paris' fourteenth arrondissement, housed in a light and airy building designed by the noted architect Jean Nouvel. The use of glass in the design creates a feeling of openness and transparency that echoes the museum’s innovative spirit.
The building stands on the grounds once occupied by the American Center for Students and Artists. This past adds a layer of creative history to its present role as a dynamic platform for contemporary works. The museum’s collection, which includes over one thousand five hundred works by more than three hundred fifty artists, features monumental installations and pioneering pieces that capture the imagination.
Outside, a modern woodland garden, created by landscape designer Lothar Baumgarten, offers a peaceful retreat amid the vibrant exhibitions inside. Temporary shows are carefully chosen to reflect a wide range of ideas and approaches, striking a balance between cutting-edge art and the rich cultural traditions that shape the community.
