Audio GuideAquarium de Paris
Colorful contemporary aquarium with sea life, shark tunnel & fish touch pool, plus 2-screen cinema.
Aquarium de Paris offers a unique journey below Chaillot Hill in the sixteenth arrondissement of Paris. Once established in eighteen sixty-seven as the world’s first aquarium, it closed in nineteen eighty-five because of decay and dwindling visitors. After a major modernization, it reopened in two thousand six transformed into a vibrant cultural hub.
The aquarium lies in a landscape that once sheltered Napoleon’s cavalry in old quarries and later served for mushroom cultivation. Today, it spans approximately three thousand five hundred square meters underground. Visitors explore a range of displays, including a Polynesian tank filled with seven hundred fifty corals, a massive basin that houses thirty-eight sharks from seven species across three million liters of water, and an Aquastudio featuring a one hundred sixty thousand liter tank where enchanting mermaid shows take place.
Cultural creativity comes alive through themed exhibitions and events. Past activities have ranged from interactive workshops and treasure hunts to art installations like an aquatic bestiary. In addition, a medusarium was introduced in two thousand nineteen, exhibiting two thousand five hundred jellyfish in twenty-four tanks. Characters from popular media, such as Ladybug from Miraculous, merge modern storytelling with historical context.
