Audio GuideParc Kellermann
1930s-era park with Art Nouveau flourishes, plus a food kiosk, Wi-Fi & open spaces for picnics.
Parc Kellermann is a notable green haven in the Thirteenth Arrondissement of Paris. Originally the bed of the Bièvre River and part of the glacis beside the old Thiers wall, this area has been transformed over time into one of the city’s most inviting parks. Established around nineteen thirty-seven and revamped in nineteen sixty, the park tells an evolving story of urban life.
The park is divided into two distinct sections. The upper area, crafted in a modern art style from the nineteen thirties, greets visitors with a grand entrance featuring the sculpture Les Rochers dans le ciel by Didier Marcel and colonnades with bas-reliefs by Élie Ottary. A long pathway lined with lime trees and a broad expanse of lawn add to the modern sophistication of this section. A small stream meanders through cascading pools, linking the upper and lower parts of the park.
In contrast, the lower section embraces a picturesque style reminiscent of the era of Napoleon the Third. Its natural appeal centres around a kidney-shaped basin with a fountain, alongside playgrounds and sports fields. Recent features, such as an educational farm home to goats, sheep, rabbits, and poultry, underscore the park's dedication to community and leisure.
This park offers not only art and history but also a vibrant space where modern design harmoniously merges with nature.
