The life & fashions of iconic designer Yves Saint Laurent are displayed at this chic museum.
Welcome to the Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. Located in an elegant nineteenth-century building at 5 Avenue Marceau in the sixteenth arrondissement, this museum was once the former atelier of the couture house where Yves Saint Laurent and his team crafted many pioneering designs. The building's rich history as Yves Saint Laurent’s workshop imparts a unique cultural importance and a genuine connection to the history of fashion.
Opened in October 2017, with notable guests such as Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault, the museum maintains the intimate atmosphere of the original studio. Visitors can explore a recreated workspace that mirrors the vibrant creative environment fostered by the designer and his skilled team, providing insights into the artistic journey behind some of the most iconic designs.
The permanent collection, gathered over several decades by Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, includes approximately thirty-five thousand items, of which more than seven thousand are haute couture garments. Iconic pieces like the women's tuxedo jacket, the Mondrian dress, the safari jacket, and the jumpsuit showcase the ongoing impact of Yves Saint Laurent's pioneering work in fashion.
Temporary exhibitions explore various themes from the designer’s career and juxtapose his creations with wider cultural and fashion movements. As a certified Musée de France, this museum plays a significant role in safeguarding cultural heritage. Its ideal location, close to notable sites such as the Pont de l’Alma and the Palais Galliera, enhances every visit with an authentic sense of Parisian sophistication.
