Audio GuideMusée National Picasso-Paris
17th-century building holding 5,000 artworks by Pablo Picasso, his own art collection & archive.
Welcome to the Musée National Picasso–Paris, located in the historic Hôtel Salé, one of the Marais district's most stunning private mansions from the seventeenth century. Originally constructed in sixteen fifty-nine for Pierre Aubert de Fontenay, the mansion boasts baroque architecture adorned with ornate sculptures and corridors that reflect its rich history. Over the years, the mansion has served various roles, including as an embassy and later as an arts and manufacturing school.
Purchased by the city of Paris in nineteen sixty-four, the building underwent a decade-long restoration from nineteen seventy-four to nineteen eighty-four before opening its doors to the public in nineteen eighty-five. This transformation brought to life Pablo Picasso's vision of a space enriched with history and art. Today, visitors can discover an outstanding collection of his paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceramics, and prints, along with decorative works commissioned from artists like Diego Giacometti.
Additional renovations completed in two thousand fourteen have expanded the exhibition space and enhanced facilities with modern interpretative displays and educational resources.
