Audio GuideMusée Jacquemart-André
Notable, 15th to 18th century, European art collection on display in ornate, 19th-century townhouse.
Musée Jacquemart-André offers a window into the elegance of Parisian life and an impressive artistic heritage. Situated in a former private mansion built from eighteen sixty-nine to eighteen seventy-six, the museum retains its original allure with fifteen exquisitely decorated rooms reflecting the sophisticated lifestyle of the French elite during the Third Republic.
This historic abode was commissioned by devoted art lovers Édouard André and his wife Nélie Jacquemart. They meticulously crafted the mansion to showcase an outstanding collection of art and decorative items, now comprising remarkable paintings, sculptures, tapestries, and more. The collection includes masterpieces by celebrated artists such as Botticelli, Rembrandt, and Tiepolo, representing Italian, French, Dutch, Flemish, and Spanish artworks.
Visitors can wander through spaces like the Grand Salon and the Winter Garden, where each room narrates its own tale with graceful decor and intentional design. Architectural highlights feature a grand staircase inspired by the Opéra Garnier, a spacious courtyard, and a splendid terrace overlooking the Boulevard Haussmann.
Since its opening in December nineteen thirteen by President Raymond Poincaré, Musée Jacquemart-André has maintained an active role in contemporary culture by hosting temporary exhibitions and cultural events. Recent restoration work completed in the autumn of twenty twenty-three has ensured that its artistic treasures remain safeguarded for future generations.
