Elegant, 19th-century gardens with a fountain & large greenhouses for palms & tropical plants.

Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil is a historic botanical garden that greets visitors with a delightful mix of horticultural splendour and architectural elegance. Founded in the eighteenth century during the reign of Louis the Fifteenth, the garden was entirely redesigned in the closing years of the nineteenth century by the architect Jean-Camille Formigé. This renovation introduced large green-painted cast iron greenhouses, including the famous Palmarium, distinguished by its individual climate zones for tropical, arid, and citrus-growing plants.

As you wander past these architectural wonders, you'll encounter sculptures and water features that add cultural depth to the garden. Artworks by acclaimed artists like Rodin and a fountain crafted by Jules Dalou enhance the garden's ambience. The park is organised into themed areas, including a traditional French formal garden and a tranquil Japanese garden complete with a stone lantern. Additional sections, such as the modern and Mediterranean gardens, display various gardening traditions from across the globe.

The garden houses nearly five thousand plant species, boasting extraordinary collections of orchids, begonias, bromeliads, and a notable variety of palm trees, along with rare specimens like Ginkgo biloba and the fragrant caramel tree. Besides its botanical wonders, Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil also hosts temporary plant exhibitions and cultural events such as classical music festivals, showcasing the progression of horticultural techniques through the years.
