Originally constructed in eighteen sixty-eight, this building has served various purposes over the years, starting as a market and school before becoming a municipal garage. In nineteen ninety-five, it embarked on a new path by transforming into a museum dedicated to unconventional art.

Today, visitors can explore collections encompassing naive art, art brut, outsider art, and unique artistic expressions. The museum hosts three to four temporary exhibitions each year, featuring both group and individual displays that showcase the talents of both emerging and established artists. These exhibitions cover a range of themes, including mysticism, the unconscious, and folk art, offering a fresh perspective on creative exploration.

Halle Saint-Pierre also supports alternative practices by providing a dedicated gallery space for artists without commercial representation and a specialised bookshop featuring publications on alternative art forms.
