Église Saint-Laurent
Restored medieval church with elaborate Gothic features, stained glass & painting-filled chapels.
Welcome to Église Saint-Laurent in Paris. This remarkable church is situated in the tenth arrondissement, anchored on a historic north-south axis that traces an ancient Roman route between Senlis and Orléans. It was originally established towards the end of the sixth century, and over time, the church has undergone considerable evolution. Its architectural journey began in the thirteenth century and saw significant changes in the fifteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries.
Today, its façade presents a striking fusion of neo-Gothic and flamboyant Gothic styles. The impressive spire and the grand rose window are among the notable features that draw one's attention. Inside, the choir boasts intricate wood carvings and detailed coats of arms, while the chapels — some dedicated to Saint Lawrence, Saint Genevieve, and the Virgin — are richly decorated with ornate carvings and paintings.
The stained glass windows narrate a tale of French craftsmanship, from the earliest designs to contemporary modernist additions. A magnificent organ, originally constructed in the nineteenth century and subsequently modified, enriches the space with a deep musical heritage. Recognised as a monument historique, Église Saint-Laurent remains a cherished part of Paris’s cultural and religious heritage, inviting visitors to explore centuries of art and tradition.
