This museum resides in a splendid building originally erected in eighteen eighty-two for the esteemed banker and art collector, Émile Gaillard. The building, once known as Hôtel Gaillard, showcases neo-Renaissance architecture, exuding the charm and elegance of a past era with its intricate design and commanding presence.
In nineteen seventeen, the Banque de France acquired the building, undertaking significant renovations. It features a spacious Grand Hall, a remarkable vault bordered by deep moats, and even a movable bridge, all adding to its distinctive character. Declared a historical monument in nineteen ninety-nine, this former bank branch has been elegantly transformed into a lively educational venue.
