Musée Bourdelle
Art museum with the studio, garden & house of Antoine Bourdelle, Rodin's pupil, & many of his works.
The Musée Bourdelle welcomes visitors into the world of a renowned French sculptor who flourished from the late nineteenth century into the early twentieth century. Antoine Bourdelle, once a student of the esteemed Auguste Rodin, carved out his own unique path in the world of sculpture, leaving a legacy that captures the essence of a Parisian workshop from a bygone era. Situated in the fifteenth arrondissement of Paris at eighteen rue Antoine Bourdelle, the museum is housed in the sculptor's former studio and maintains the ambience and working environment he held dear.
Visitors are guided along an educational and chronological journey that reveals the progression of Bourdelle's art. More than five hundred works are exhibited, including statues made from marble, plaster, and bronze, as well as thought-provoking paintings and drawings. Among these masterpieces are original plaster casts depicting studies of the legendary Ludwig van Beethoven, and pieces by acclaimed artists such as Eugène Carrière, Eugène Delacroix, Ingres, Monticelli, and Puvis de Chavannes.
Following a major renovation lasting two years, the museum reopened its doors in March twenty twenty-three. Additionally, a secondary garden-museum in Égreville, curated by Bourdelle’s descendants, further enriches his heritage with an expanded collection of sculptures.
