Welcome to the Institut du Monde Arabe, a remarkable hub in the heart of Paris dedicated to the celebration of Arab art and culture. Established in nineteen eighty-seven as a collaborative initiative between France and twenty-two Arab nations, this impressive nine-storey structure combines contemporary architecture with traditional Arab design elements. Its façade is adorned with one hundred and eighty motor-controlled apertures, reminiscent of the classic Islamic moucharabiehs, which cleverly regulate sunlight.

Designed by Jean Nouvel and his team, the building is a testament to cultural exchange and harmony. It came into being during an era when visionary French leaders, such as President François Mitterrand, embarked on ambitious projects to rejuvenate the cultural scene. Inside, the museum offers visitors a journey through time with artefacts and artworks ranging from ancient to modern times. Additionally, the centre includes a library focussed on Arab culture, a performance auditorium, and facilities for public events.

Alongside its permanent exhibitions, the institute presents temporary exhibitions spotlighting contemporary photography, literature, and other forms of creativity. Its dynamic programme of cultural events, featuring music, film, and language courses, encourages visitors to delve into the richness of Arab heritage. Situated on Rue des Fossés Saint-Bernard in the fifth arrondissement, it is easily accessible via the underground, with stations such as Jussieu and Cardinal Lemoine nearby.
